Shutter Speed Excercises

Motion Blur- Action

1) When i took this picture, i was by the umbrella patio where there was a bunch of trees and leaves on the ground that created a nice scenery.
2) Prior to getting this specific shot, i ran into problems like having to switch my position because of shadows and i also ran into the issue of timing because i could not figure out how to get the falling leaves exactly where i wanted them.
3) This shot is the best representation of this skill because it demostarates a sequence of action with the leaves being thrown up in the air, blurred, and the expression on liz's face.
4) The settings i tried before getting this particular shot were changing the f stop and the iso level. this did not always work for me that well because sometimes i would get the leaves too blurred out.
5) One thing that could be im proved in this picture is getting closer and more zoomed in to the leaves themself so that they are easy to spot when compared to the background they are placed in.
Stop Action- Running

1) When i took this picture i was still by the umbrella patio, against the fence so i did not capture the shadows in the shot and got better lighting.
2) Prior to getting this shot, i was having trouble with capturing her at the right moment and had many shots that demonstarted this.
3) This shot is the best representation of the skill because it exemplifies a stop in the action by capturing her clearly and precisely while in action.
4) The setting I tried prior to taking this shot were changing the f stop so she does not become too blurred. This sometimes did not end up working too well because it was either too high or too low.
5) One thing that could be improved in this picture is backing up more so that you actually see motion in action in a better perspective.

Motion Blur- Running

 1) When i took this picture i was still at the same location, by the umbrella patios away from the shadows and a distracting background.
2) Prior to getting this shot, i was having trouble with timing. For instance, sometimes i captured the shot too early where he was just about to begin running, or too late where he was already at the finish line and did not demonstrate the skill effectively.
3) This shot is the best representation of the skill because it demonstarates the action of running, but does not make it the main focal point by blurring it a bit and instead focusing on the blue unmbrella, rather than the model.
4) The settings I tried prior to taking this shot were getting to a higher f stop level and changing the exposure. This did not work that well because at times, she appeared too be overly blurred and that ruined the shot entirely.
5) One thing that could be improved in this picture is making him look a bit more blurred so that you actually get that true sense of action occuring.
Stop Action- Dropping/ Falling Items

1) When i took this picture, i was in the grassy area by the umbrella patios, looking up at a tall tree with pretty colors that seemed interesting to me and worthy of being photographed.
2) One problem i faced while taking this picture was being able to capture the positiong of the leaf while in a falling action because everytime i attempted to, i was too slow to capture it altogether.
3) this [icture is the best representation of this skill bevause it captures the falling item in a unique way when put in contrast with the background that emphasizes the motion.
4) i tried using the f stop setting and slowing it down a bit so that i could clearly grasp the motion of the leaf falling in place, but i had a bit of trouble dealing witht his since i could not find the exact value that would allow me to do so.
5) i could improve zooming in on the leaf itself to make it the main focal point and blur or get rid of part of the tree that take away from the view of the leaf falling.
Stop Action- Jumping

1) When i took this picture, i was again by the grassy area near the umbrella patio capturing Leo in a jumping action.
2) One problem i encountered was not being able to get the full effect of this demonstration because i would either click too soon or click too late.
3) this shot was the best representation of this skill because it grasps the full affect of jumping without blurring it to so you can clearly see and i utilized the rule of thirds to add a better technique.
4) the settings i tried before taking this shot was lowering the brightness and switching the shutter speed
5) one thing i would like to improve in this picture is the level at which it is taken so i could have made it seem like it was at more of a height

Angles

 Above

Below

This shot is my strongest because it clearly makes the the crab the main focal point, but it provides an interesting background that adds more detatil to the image.

Straight

The most challenging part of this assignment was trying to figure out how to make the object look more interesting when put with several different backgrounds. i overcame this challenge by trying numerous different shots and applying the photo composition rules to enhance my object and my images.

Composition

This is an example of an image that effectively uses leading lines as one of the photo composition techniques. The many seats on the bus provide the illusion of lines which i framed by taking the image at a higher view point and making sure not to put the object front and center.

Improve
I feel that i need to improve on how to change the light settings to ensure that  my object is made the main object is the focal point and not  the background instead. I need to improve on how to make the object sharper and cleaner than the rest of the image.

rule of thirds ~ leading lines ~ filling the frame

- Rule of Third-

This is an example of rule of third because the giraffe is clearly shifted to the side as opposed to being dead center. When i saw this picture, it made me wonder what the giraffe was looking at and why it seemed to have such a laid abck expression on its face? This image us a great example of rule of thirds and just a great image overall that has a beautiful background with the sky that makes it stand out. Yet, the giraffe is what grabs our attention.

- Leading Lines-

This picture is the epitome of leading lines. in the image you can see the lights from the cars making lines which your eyes quickly gravitate towards and the ceiling itself has lines going every which way and it tricks your eye into thinking it goes on forever. When i  first saw this picture i was pulled into it by the lines formed by the headlights of cars and the structure itself

-Filling the Frame-

This picture perfectly exemplifies filling the frame because it clearly shows the image and the picture is taken in such a way that the flower pretty much takes up the entire space of its fram for the most part.

This Picture of Paris, France captivated my attention because of the lighting and the way the Eiffel Tower and the water seem to brighten up the whole picture. I like how the Eiffel Tower was captured to the side so that it would be a big element, but not the only one. I infer that this was taken during sunset and that the photographers motive for taken this picture was to show the beauty of Paris in a different way than just simply taking a straight on pic of the Eiffel Tower. With the lighting, it sort of gives a sense of calm and cool.

Here is a picture of humans swimming above and fish swimming down below. I see the calm water separating one from the other as to differenciate them, but at the same time showing them in unison. This photograph makes me question what the purpose of capturing them both from below was. I infer that the photographer might be trying to make a comparison between us humans and animals. I believe this because this photograph makes me think a bit more than just saying "its a cool picture."

This picture, named Homeless, was chosen as the best environmental photo of 2011. The photographer, Chan kwok. wanted to tell the story of these two children who spent two entire days in search for food in scrap yards. This photo makes me question where their parents are, what they are doing on their own at such a young age, and why there appears to be so much pain in their eyes? This photo definetely caught my attention and gave off strong emotion.
This amazing sight is lightning striking in the falls in Guyana Kaieteur, taken by the phtographer from the United Kingdom, James Broscombe. I see lightning, i see a colorful sky, i see land that maybe has been separated by a strong force. I infer that something in nature brought this about and that the lightning served more than just the purpose of capturing a bolt of light. This makes me question what occured to create this scene? The photographer's motive for capturing this was most likely to capture an uncommom and rarely seen sight.

This photo, taken by William Lascelles, captures this beautiful dog & the perfectly synchronized jets in the background blue spacious sky. i infer from thje look of the house in the back that the dog belongs to a rather wealthy family. A question that arose in my mind was what the relationship between the dog and the jets is? what was the photographer trying to portray in this photo?
